WELCOME TO HME HEREFORDS
March 24, 2015
Spring is arriving finally! This has been one of the coldest, wettest March’s in my 54 years of living on this old Georgia farm . . . and we’re still feeding some hay! The annual ryegrass is starting to grow finally and as we are prone to repeat in this breed . . . “There’s nothing prettier than Herefords on green grass”
March and April are a busy time for us selling Herefords with the following events planned or already behind us:
March 4th found us at the University of Georgia Tifton Bull Evaluation Sale:
THE HEREFORDS ROCKED. Per head Hereford’s averaged $4,833 compared to Angus $4,416 and SimAngus $4,029. The high selling Hereford, a Trust son, sold for $7,000. This ended up being a very good payday for HME Herefords and left us feeling very encouraged with the direction our program is heading.
Coming April 4th is the Georgia Hereford Association Annual Sale
at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry, Georgia. A copy of the sale catalog can be found at the following site:
There will be many nice bred females at this sale as well as a few quality young bulls. HME Herefords has entered two outstanding young bulls as well as three bred heifers and one nice young bred cow.
This year we will be trying something different with our Fall born feeder cattle. Given our reasonable proximity
to Columbia, Tennessee we will be selling our steers in the Tennessee Hereford Marketing Program Feeder Calf Sale April 16, 2015:
If we are satisfied with this strategy it is our intention then to sell our Winter born feeder calves in the same Fall sale.
